Mt. 6: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Prayer for health and healing:
Slide: 1 Peter 2:24“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
Sermon: Powerful Partnerships in PHilipians
The Lions Club hosts an annual music contest, providing scholarships to the musically inclind. We have formed a partnership with them that is mutually beneficial for both communities. Saturday, we will partner together to be a blessing to this musical community.
WE continue to look for ways to partner wit like minded communities looking for opportunities to be an agent of God’s blessing.
In April we will partner with other churches and businesses to Stop Hunger Now.
Soon, we will partner together and meet in small groups to facilitate our growing relationship with God.
I have a proposal for you. For the days leading up to Easter, would you consider this being an activity for Lent.
Every day do something with someone. The something being sharing the good news of Jesus, the someone will be up to you.
Sharing the good news about Jesus Christ is a broad based way to do so. I will be sending ideas out almost every day as an example.
I wish all of us were signed into Facebook, and would read the daily posts to the church page.
It is a way to partner with your own congregation on sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Lent is also a season of abstaining from bad behaviors. Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is a way to over indulge food and alcohol before abstaining for 40 days, or actually 46 days of Lent. Be encouraged to NOT overindulge before Lent. If you feel a call from the Lord to abstain from certain foods and drinks during Lent, then I would add my blessing to it, and it will remain personal. The one I am asking us to abstain from as a church is the focus on ourselves. Let us focus on the Lord and others, and not on ourselves for the season of Lent. Partnership is doing something with someone, and if one’s focus in one’s self, it is impossible to be a fully engaged partner in something with someone.
Let us continue looking at Philipians as we continue to form powerful partnerships.
4Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, 5for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. 6And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Pastor: The Word of the Lord.
Everyone: Thanks be to God!
Partners Pray for One Another
4Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy
It is not if, but when.
There are many kinds of prayer, some are urgent and filled with intensity, others are peaceful and full of tranquility, others are general and simply filled with praise and thanksgiving, still others are very specific, targeted to a particular need. A kind of prayer that is very specific is a prayer of petition.
A specific, targeted prayer, that is planned, with a prayer partner, and combined with a sacrificial gift offering is a prayer of petition.
Scroll down for the Prayer of Petition, that Brenda and I used in April of 2014. (We borrowed it from a book, by Jerry Savelle). It is at the very bottom.
This took us about a month to fully plan, because it involves coming into agreement on financial expenditures, agreeing on a debt reduction plan, and agreeing on a sacrificial gift to a ministry.
I encourage you to plan and then pray this prayer of petition, tailoring it for you own needs and situation.
By God’s grace, Brenda and I have reduced a few large debts since April, and all of this without any significant income change or bonuses. Debt is more spiritual than maybe you want to admit, but for us it was a both spiritual and natural. By Grace, through faith, a prayer of petition is a very specific, prayer with a very narrow focus. Our need was to be delivered from debt, and yours may be something different. The point, is to be specific in a prayer of petition, and be very clear what it is, you are asking for.
Try this, and don’t do it quickly, but slowly, methodically, and in full agreement with a prayer partner.
(Be encouraged to spend some time, adding up all your debts, and putting that amount in the prayer of petition)
(If debt isn’t what you are wanting to pray about, then get very specific on an issue that keeps coming to your mind. The idea is to be specific in this kind of praying)
But just imagine, your life, being free from debt, including your home mortgage. Imagine your life being free from the particular issue that keeps bothering you.
Slide: Partnership is Participation
5for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now
This verse, according to most commentators and I agree, sums up the theme of the book of Philippians.
The CPA firm the church uses, is a business partnership between D.H. Scarborough and Kathy Georgen. They are business partners. Theirs is a specific partnership.
The partnership Paul experienced by the Philippians is specifically, this:
Partners in spreading the good news about Christ.
The meaning of the term partnership in spreading the good news about Christ is, koinōnia eis to euangelion, is invaluable in determining the theme of PHilipians, and I pray becomes our theme for our life of ministry in 2015.
That together we would join together in being partners in spreading the good news about Christ.
The Philipians congregation willingly become Paul's partners in spreading the good news about Christ.
The apostle thought highly of them as he reflects upon the way in which the church supported him from the first day, i.e. the establishment of the church through the preaching of the word, recorded in Acts 16.
The Philipians people upon receiving the gospel message and their obedience to it is shown to be genuine by the outworking of the truth in their lives. They had abounded in the grace of unstinting generosity (see 2 Cor. 8:7), and so had proved the sincerity of their love (2 Cor. 8:8) for the Lord and his work. Their sincerity of love for the Lord and for he Lord’s work manifested in their financial generosity to support the spreading of the good news about Jesus Christ.
Partnership is doing something with someone, and there will be money involved as it was between the Philipians and the Apostle Paul.
Sincerity of partnership, will involve money, we all know that money can divide families, and friends.
So, the establishing of partnerships in sharing the good news about Jesus, will involve money and the stewardship of the way that money is handled.
We today might take the lesson to heart that the sign of our professed love for the gospel is the measure of sacrifice we are prepared to make in order to help its progress.
The word for partners is also understood as the christian term of Fellowship,
koinōnia, is a rich New Testament word, the precise meaning of which has received a great deal of attentive study
Basically it denotes ‘participation in something with someone’; and it's meaning that Christians share with one another in a common possession (for example, ‘the gospel’ in this verse and partners with ‘the Spirit’ in 2:1.
“Participation in something with someone”
Fellowship, or partnership is far more important than the popular modern idea of a personal association with fellow-Christians as when we use the word of a friendly atmosphere in a public meeting. The biblical term for fellowship or partnership is participation in something with someone, not just hanging out. As good as hanging out is, that doesn’t capture what true biblical fellowship implies.
Biblical Partnership is participation in the spreading the good news about Christ.
As an Assemblies of God congregation, we participate in a voluntarily cooperative fellowship.
WE are in participation in something with someone. The something is spreading the good news about Jesus Christ.
Partnership, or fellowship is participation in something with someone.
A few Saturday’s ago, the ladies fellowshipped with other ladies within the Assemblies of God in our area. Over 200 ladies, from 16 or 16 different church partnered together to share the good news about Jesus Christ.
There was a financial piece. $5 for registration, and an offering was taken.
These ministry opportunities to partner with others, is the way of being successful in ministry in the future.
This is participation in something with someone. The something is sharing the good news about Jesus Christ.
The ladies, did hang out, and socialize, and had fun, but it included spiritual activities to draw the participants closer into Jesus, and for those outside of a relationship with Jesus, there was an encouragement to come into relationship with Jesus. I pray, all our ladies, continue to partner in sharing the good news of Jesus the next time a sectional event comes up.
IN the near future, Tom Kraft will lead the team on spiritual formation, and as many of us, that will participate the better, as we will being meeting in homes in small groups to have our spiritual lives formed into the very likeness of Jesus Christ.
I pray, that we will become partners, which is doing something, with someone, and the something is sharing the good news about Jesus Christ. there is a financial piece to partnership, there is also a time piece for partnership.
Our time is worth more than money, and as we continue to form powerful partnerships, there will be both money and time involved.
Simply hanging out with someone or a bond joining Christians together it is never found in Paul’s epistles. The sharing of the good news about Jesus is what makes it a biblical fellowship, over a social fellowship.
Paul, never understood from the Lord, that followers of Jesus Christ were to just hang out together, sip coffee, nibble donuts, check email and call that fellowship.
He understood from the Lord, that fellowship, or partnership, was participation in something, and in Philippians, that something is the spreading of the good news about Jesus Christ.
Partnership’s meaning is one of participation in an object outside of subjective experience, an ‘objective work’ such as a work of ministry within a church or missions context.
To be a partner by participation in the spreading of the good news about Christ it is important to be fully aware of the work of evangelization, for we are not partners in exercise or business but partners in sharing the good news about Jesus Christ.
Partnership, is, participation in the sharing of the good news about Jesus Christ.
We discovered as one of our core values, a style of evangelism as relational evangelism.
- Relational Evangelism - God's message of love, forgiveness, and a transformed life through Christ is best conveyed in the context of personal and authentic relationships.
Will you become a partner , by participation in sharing the good news about Jesus Christ.
In April, we will partner with other churches and businesses to Stop Hunger Now.
I am asking for 100% participation to fill bags with nutritious meals and in partnership with others we can do so much more than if we tried this on our own.
This gospel, or good news about Jesus Christ is the work, the Apostle Paul was called to, and he unashamedly asked the Philippians to join him in that work.
HE also calls us to join in the mission of God, to evangelize the world.
How we, see evangelism working in our context and in our community is with in the context of personal and authentic relationships.
Prayer of Petition for being debt free
Be it known this day, February 15, 2015
That I receive a heavenly grant in the amount of $……..(Please add up all of your debt, including home mortgage, car loans, student loans, etc.)
Father, in the name of Jesus, I come boldly to the throne of grace and present your Word.
According to John 16:23, Jesus said, “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My name” (AMP).
Jesus ,you said in Mark 11:24, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe, (trust and be confident) that it is granted you, and you will [get it]” (Amp)
Your word states in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom”. In accordance with Your Word, I give and I sow seed, in order to set this spiritual law to work in my behalf.
Because I am “a cheerful, (joyous, ‘prompt to do it’) giver [whose heart is his giving], “ you make, “all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to me in abundance, so that I am always and under all circumstances and whatever the need self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation]” (2 Cor. 9:7,8 AMP, with personal paraphrase.
According to Matthew 18:18, I bind Satan and all his forces and I render them helpless and unable to operate against me. They will not hinder my grant.
According to Hebrews 1:13, 14 I loose the ministering spirits, and I charge them to go forth and cause my grant to come into my hands.
I have applied for this grant for the following:
Jesus you said in Matthew 18:19, “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven,” Therefore, (fill in the name of your prayer partner) and I set ourselves in agreement, and we believe we receive now, and we praise you for it.
