Don't be THAT older brother

1 Samuel 17:

28When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here?

Here is where most dreams die.  A family member, one who is older, wiser, etc., someone in authority over you, begins to tell you and remind you, of who you are.

The dream of reigning in life, is about who you can become, but a family member can only see you for who you are and they will remind you of this often.

We reign in life, through the one man, Jesus Christ.(Ro. 5:17)

As a family, as a community of faith, we hold an awesome privilege.  To encourage others to reign in their life, or to stay the same in their life.  We can fan into flame, a positive idea of reigning in life, or we can extinguish the flame, by criticizing and reminding a person, of who they are and minimizing who they can become.

Go, and the Lord be with you!

Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

This is the awesome power a follower of Jesus Christ has.  You can reign in life, through Christ Jesus.

Too often, we tend to only remember King Saul by his failings, but here, he is a man of faith, who has sent David to fight Goliath, with the most powerful of all blessings.

Go, and the Lord be with you.

It is very similar to the Lord Jesus telling the disciples at his ascension to go into the whole world and preach the gospel, and I will be with you.

Mt. 28: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, ….And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

It is a powerful moment, to tell someone, give it a try; the Lord will be with you.

The question is, will you?

Seed Faith Thoughts Killed Goliath

I read a story about an author of a book who was checking his baggage at an airline counter.  He was asked if he was carrying anything dangerous.

Instead of saying, no.

He said, "yes, I carry the most dangerous thing of all in my luggage."

He got their attention.

He went on to say. " I have ideas of hope, of freedom, of reigning in life inside my luggage."

Ideas are the most dangerous and the most blessed of all things.

Ideas, are thoughts. Ideas are seeds of faith.

If a seed of a thought can be planted in someone’s mind and heart, then they will follow that seed of an idea.

It works for good or for evil.

In David’s situation, he did not come from tending sheep planning to do anything other, than taking his brothers some food, and checking in on the battle.  He was probably just daydreaming, and humming to himself, on the way.  He came to the battle lines, with no intention of doing anything brave.

Until the seed faith thought was planted in his mind.

He came to the battle lines, as a shepherd boy, but something began to change him from the inside.

Three ideas began to form in his mind, and they very quickly took root in his heart.

"The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him.
He will also give him his daughter in marriage.

and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.”(1 Sam. 17)

A seed faith idea is what killed Goliath.

Spin Doctor

After my first chemotherapy treatment, my spin class instructor asked me before spinning "how are you?". ( A loaded question for anyone overcoming cancer.)  I responded, "fine, except they added some steroids to the mix, and it me made a little edgy".  Her response?

And then she spun us into near cardiac arrest with another of her "expand my horizons" music play list that included a few "edgy" songs.

I have since asked to be taken off the steroids, and there is beauty of being surrounded by lots of wise counselors as I continue the battle against a life shortening disease.  For my spin doctor and others, being edgy is a cool thing, and it gave me the freedom to release the tension of the side affects of treatments in the presence of friends, who sincerely want me to get better.

I pray you surround yourself with a wide variety of professionals as you fight the good fight of faith.

Thank-you Beth, or Dr. Beth for being my spin doctor.

A Person CAN Reign in Life

Do not allow an enemy to get in your head and reign over you.

This is the awesome power of an authority figure.  You can get in people’s heads, and you can instill the idea, that they can reign in life, or you can lose your way, and yield to the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of riches or the lust of other things.

We can reign, and this is our day and it is important for all of our families, our community and globe to reign in life, through Christ Jesus.

When you want to quit, remember, you can reign in life, through Christ.
When you doubt your self, and your own kids, you can overcome these doubts, and reign in life, through Christ.

This is the awesome power a follower of Jesus Christ has.  You can reign in life, through Christ Jesus. (Ro. 5:17)

The question is, will you?

What would you think of me, who thought so lowly of myself, that I was too unworthy to receive a gift.

Maybe you would think I was ungrateful.
Maybe you would think I was un-kind.

Well, I am telling you, that God has given us human beings the gift of being righteous, and if we think of ourselves so lowly, that we are unworthy of receiving it, it will come across as being ungrateful and unkind.

And, we are witnesses to others, and if we are not accepting this gift of righteousness, it affects others.

And, we in relationship with God, are to be more aware of how our character and actions are affecting others.

Can we receive the gift of righteousness?

Yes, at the moment of saying yes, to a relationship with God, through Christ Jesus you are given the gift of righteousness.  It is a gift, given, not earned.
