Lighten up

the Lord has told you what is good,

and this is what he requires of you:

to do what is right, to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8 NLT)

The same prophet who predicted that Bethlehem would be the birth place of the Messiah also provides a short list of basic requirements. The longer one follows Jesus the less requirements are needed.

In long runs or long, through hikes of the AT, less baggage is the ideal. The less stuff you bring is better. I am reading a story of a through hiker who got rid of her cook stove early in her hike of the AT. One of the harder things to do as one progresses in building up endurance for long runs or hikes is to get rid of stuff that you thought you might need but really don't need.

I am sure that by now the three kings would have gotten rid of some of the stuff they didn't need.

What excess "requirements" do you need to let go of so that you can go the full distance and occupy Bethlehem?

Lord, help us lighten up so we can go the full distance and occupy the place and person of Jesus.
